Denon has introduced its PerL and PerL Pro (Personalised Listening, geddit?) true-wireless earbuds. Featuring Masimo AAT (Adaptive Acoustic Technology), the in-ears allow users to create a personal audio profile in order to optimise sound quality.

The company explains that hearing varies from person to person and so the earbuds use proprietary Masimo technology to: “measure faint otoacoustic emissions (OAEs), which are produced by the inner ear in the presence of a range of tones played to assess each person’s unique response to sound. Once the OAEs are analysed to determine how sensitive a person’s ears are to each frequency, a personal hearing profile is created in the Denon PerL Headphone app.” This profile is claimed to provide unparalleled depth, detail and clarity.

Equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon Sound and aptX, the PerLs are able to wirelessly deliver lossless audio over Bluetooth. Additionally, both models offer active noise cancellation and a more transparent social mode, allowing the user to tune the world out or let it in. The PerL Pro features eight microphones (versus the four of the PerL) and upgraded noise cancellation, automatically adjusting the level of cancellation according to the amount of leak-through, the environment’s sound and the tightness of fit in the listener’s ear canal.

Denon PerL users will be able to enhance their personalisation by viewing their unique profiles through the Denon Headphones app for iOS and Android, with the ability to customise features such as selective noise cancelling or Social Mode and on-earbud touch controls such as play/pause, skip track, change volume and more.

The £190 PerL boasts a six-hour battery (+24 via the charging case), while the £300 PerL Pro claims eight hours (+32).
