Acoustic Energy introduces 100 Series flagship loudspeaker

AE adds the AE120 to its entry-level speaker range

Acoustic Energy introduced its 100 Series in 2017 – the Cirencester-based company’s 30th anniversary year – with the launch of the AE109 (HFC 425), the new series’ top floorstander at the time priced at £600. The AE120 (pictured above) is the latest addition to the entry-level series and is a true three-way floorstander with sensitivity rated at 90dB.

The slimline floorstander measuring 200 x 900 x 300mm (WxHxD) sees the new addition to the 100 Series continue to focus on traditional design values for a modern setting that have been carefully thought through. Twin 110mm bass drive units underpin the AE120’s performance, partnered with a dedicated midrange driver that’s housed in its own enclosure designed to mitigate the harmful effects of rear wave reflections, the company says.

Integrated within the matched Wide Dispersion Technology (WDT) waveguide – derived from the DXT lens developed for the company’s Reference Series and AE1 Active loudspeakers, the 25mm soft-dome tweeter manages the high frequencies offering controlled dispersion, high sensitivity and low distortion levels, it continues.

A slot port at the rear of the cabinet aims to reduce midrange colouration and improve bass response, and the same mass loading material used in the AE109 is in the base of the AE120’s cabinets, offering improved damping, bass control and a net speaker weight of 19kg.

Managing director Mat Spandl comments: “Since the launch of the 100 Series, our customers have been asking for a bigger, bolder version of the AE109, so we’ve designed the new AE120 with taller dimensions while keeping a slimline footprint and with more power, thanks to its three-way configuration”.

Fitted with neat magnetic speaker grilles, it’s available finished in a walnut vinyl veneer as standard or satin black for an extra £50 outlay. The AE120 is on slae now for £800 and you can find out more about it here.
