50th anniversary re-release for Dusty Springfield

Dusty Springfield hadher first andonly number one single 50 years ago this month with You Don’t Have To Say You Love Mein 1966, 50 years ago this year. Originally a 1965 Italian song by Pino Donaggio, Dusty saw it performed, in Italian, at the 1965 Sanremo Festival and was moved to tears. Her manager Vicki Wickham and friend Simon Napier Bell wrote some lyrics in English for Dusty who famously recorded 47 takes before she was happy with how it sounded, even moving out to the stairwell of the studio in an attempt to get the acoustics right. To celebrate the ocassion, Universal Music has re-released Just Dusty on CD.

Acoustic Energy AE109 introduces classic AE100 Series

Originally launched back in 1996, the first AE109 set new standards for what was expected from an entry-level speaker, and now it’s set to return in the form of the new AE100 Series, consisting of the AE100 standmount, AE109 floorstander, AE108 subwoofer and AE107 centre speaker for home cinema setups. The AE100 standmount (£199) utilises a 110mm drive unit complimented by a 28mm soft dome tweeter featuring AE’s Wide Dispersion Technology, there’s also a slot-shaped bass duct port. Aiming to replicate the same effortless room-filling ability of its namesake from 20 years ago, the new AE109 is a slimline floorstander with a 2. 5-way driver configuration.

Acoustic Energy announces AE1 Classic Limited Edition

Acoustic Energy has began the final production run of its iconic AE1 Classic loudspeaker as some of the bespoke parts that go into it are no longer being made available to it. To celebrate the end of an era, the company is unveiling a limited edition version of the standmfamed ount. The production run will be limited to just 100 numbered pairs of the AE1 Classic Limited Editionfor worldwide distribution. In addition to the Piano gloss finish, each unit will boast gold or silver plated bolts and feature a matching gold/silver-plated Limited Edition plaque with serial and edition numbers on the back of each speaker.

Acoustic Energy introduces 100 Series flagship loudspeaker

Acoustic Energy introduced its 100 Series in 2017 – the Cirencester-based company’s 30th anniversary year – with the launch of the AE109 (HFC 425), the new series’ top floorstander at the time priced at £600. The AE120 (pictured above) is the latest addition to the entry-level series and is a true three-way floorstander with sensitivity rated at 90dB. The slimline floorstander measuring 200 x 900 x 300mm (WxHxD) sees the new addition to the 100 Series continue to focus on traditional design values for a modern setting that have been carefully thought through. Twin 110mm bass drive units underpin the AE120’s performance, partnered with a dedicated midrange driver that’s housed in its own enclosure designed to mitigate the harmful effects of rear wave reflections, the company says.

It was widely acclaimed as a benchmark for compact loudspeaker designs, and earned the Gloucestershire-based company recognition around the world. Its latest release, the ODS-1 features a hybrid sound engine with a balanced armature driver and 10mm titanium diaphragm dynamic transducer that’s claimed to deliver powerful and warm lows with highly refined highs to render a fully immersive sound signature. Hand crafted in its Parisian workshop, the ODS-1 has a machined aluminium housing along with ear hooks and MMCX detachable cable sheathed in calf’s leather from Venetia. The removable cable has a remote control and microphone, and is compatible with iOS and Android operating systems.

Aesthetic releases Mimas integrated

A US brand distributed in the UK by Decent Audio, Aesthetix has announced the introduction of Mimas, the first integrated amplifier from the high-end component manufacturer. A hybrid design combining a valve preamp stage – using a single 6DJ8 valve per channel in a fully differential, balanced configuration – with a solid-state power amp section, it’s power output is rated at 2x 150W into 8ohm and claims to almost double that into 4ohm. Hand assembled in California and priced at £8,725, it offers five line-level inputs as standard, with a variable gain MM/MC phono stage and/or DAC module with two coaxial and two optical inputs and a USB port for an additional £1,500 each. Aesthetix introduces Saturn Eclipse collection

Californian brand Aesthetix’s renowned Saturn series gets a 2018 update with its seven-strong Saturn Eclipse collection of high-end components. Distributed in the UK by Cool Gales in Bath and Hi-Fi Sound in Stockton-on-Tees, prices range from £12,455 each for the Rhea Eclipse all-valve phono stage and the Calypso Eclipse (pictured below) line stage preamp, to the Atlas Eclipse mono power amplifier pair at £31,190. The other components in the collection are the Pandora Eclipse DAC (£14,950), Janus Eclipse full-function preamp and Romulus Eclipse DAC/CD Player (each £16,200) and the Atlas Eclipse power amp (£18,700). According to the manufacturer, enhancements include new StealthCap capacitors for subtle detailing and improved spatial imaging; electrical upgrades; advanced mechanical chassis isolation and sophisticated power supply grounding.
